Stones Throw into Mexico

I was sittin' at home in San Antone when I heard the shots ring out.
So I ran into the street to see what the shootin' was about.
There before my eyes lay a .45 smokin' in the sand.
When I picked it up I heard a sheriff say "Get a rope, we got our man."
I turned around and there i found my pony saddled up and ready to ride.
It was plain to see they planned on hangin' me in San Antone that night.
I hit the trail out of town as fast a I could go.
I was kickin' up dust on the trail to Mexico.
Just a stones throw into Mexico.
Right across the Rio Grande.
That's how far i had to go
to get away from that lawman.
I aint done nothin' wrong
but I still had to go.
Just a stones throw into Mexico.
I thought I finally had it made with the Rio Grande in sight.
That posse was hot right on my trail, been gainin' on me all night.
Then I heard the crack of a rifle and I heard the sheriff yell.
One big boom from a buffalo gun and my pony stumbled and fell.
Just a stones throw into Mexico.
Right across the Rio Grande.
That's how far i had to go
to get away from that lawman.
I aint done nothin' wrong
but I still had to go.
Just a stones throw into Mexico.
Well I looked back out of that water and I couldn't believe my eyes.
Out ahead of that mob was old Lee Bob.
I've known him all my life.
He said "I've been leading this posse in circles 'cause son you ride too slow.
Now get up on this mustang boy, we gotta go."
Just a stones throw into Mexico.
Right across the Rio Grande.
That's how far i had to go
to get away from that lawman.
I aint done nothin' wrong
but I still had to go.
Just a stones throw into Mexico.
